Using Massed Entry for a Cross-Country

Much of this is the same as for Trials so the differences will be emphasised.

Settings

In Carnival Settings make sure the setup says Cross Country and scoring system is Normal.

Program of Events

You need a program of events with only Cross Country in it.  If you have male and female competitors and six age groups you will have 12 events.

This will be set up automatically when you choose Cross Country above.  The scoring grade is set to X.

The Scoring Grade

Set the points in Grade X.  The table here goes to 30 places.  If you need more you could import them or use the Places/Points Generator.

Scoring a Cross-Country

How to score a cross country can be a difficult decision.  In the interests of scoring fairness every house should have the same number of contestants but this this can usually only be enforced in an Inter-school carnival.  Within a school you want maximum participation and the numbers per house will always vary.

If you are not interested in overall house/team scores then the score system is essentially irrelevant because you are only interested in placings, which can be printed without requiring scores.

One approach to this problem is to only score the best few competitors per house, regardless of how many competitors there are per house.
